FAQ

What is coaching?

Coaching helps you to stop, think, reflect, and explore.

It provides a safe space that is open, honest and free from judgement, with constructive challenge and support.

It helps you get out of your own head.

A Coach might use coaching tools and techniques.

But most of all a Coach will listen and ask questions.

What's the difference between coaching, counselling and therapy?

Coaching, counselling and therapy all involve a confidential conversation.   Coaching focuses on the present and the future.  Counselling and therapy focus on the past. Conversations in coaching might touch on the past but only to see how it can help in the future.
Let your Coach know if you are in any kind of counselling or therapy. So they can think about how the coaching fits with other interventions.
Coaching is not a substitute for counselling or therapy but it can work alongside it.

What's the first step?

What happens in the introductory call?

I will ask what brings you to coaching to get an idea of what you’re looking for help with. We find out a bit about each other. It’s important that you get the right Coach for you so you get to ask me questions too. After the call you decide whether you want to continue to work with me. There’s no obligation.

Do I need to prepare anything before we speak?

No, not unless you want to.  Just be ready to talk to me about what’s important to you.

How much does coaching cost and how do I pay?

Coaching is an investment in yourself.
I charge £90 for a one-hour session.

We can discuss the best number of sessions for you.

I might suggest a coaching package of 3 or 6 sessions, or if you prefer you can pay by session.

Payment is by bank transfer or credit card in advance of sessions.

What do I get for my investment?

In return for your investment you get my full and undivided attention in our sessions; additional support in between sessions by email; my supportive challenge and objectivity; someone in your corner who isn’t your partner or your friend; the space to say what’s really on your mind without being judged; and the time to reflect and say how you really feel.

Can I book a single session?

Yes, sometimes a single session can do the job. It depends on what you want to achieve. That’s something we can discuss in the introductory call.

How long does a coaching session last?

Each session lasts for an hour.

What happens in a coaching session?

We meet online or on the phone*.  You tell me how you want to use the session and we agree on the outcome and we take it from there. There isn’t a set structure for a session.

*As of January 2021 I am coaching online or on the phone.  I’m hoping to reintroduce face to face sessions later in the year.

Where do we meet?

I usually Coach online (Skype or Zoom) or on the phone.

How often do sessions happen?

Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, once every three weeks or over a longer period.  It depends what it is you want to work on and what your goal is.

Can I contact you outside of our sessions?

Yes, you can get in touch between sessions by email or text.  I’ll always try and get back to you within 24 hours – or on Monday if you get in touch over the weekend.

How do I book sessions?

I give you a direct link to my calendar to book your sessions.

When are sessions available?

I offer coaching weekdays including some evening sessions.  We can talk about when sessions would be best for you in our introductory call.

Do I get homework?

Sometimes.  If we both agree that there’s something that you could work on or think about between sessions.

What kind of coach are you?

I’m calm and patient.  I listen and ask lots of questions.  Sometimes I will ask challenging questions.  I use coaching models and techniques – these vary for every client depending what we are working on.  Read more about what it’s like to work with me.

Can I speak to you before I book a session?

I offer a free Discovery Call.  If that’s too big a step for you just now then drop me an email and we can start an email conversation to get to know each other a bit better.

Is there anything that we can’t talk about?

I’m happy to explore what’s important for you.  If I feel something isn’t appropriate, if I’m not able to help you or I feel you need more specialist help or advice then I will tell you.

Is what we talk about confidential?

I maintain 100% confidentiality to the fullest extent of the law, and so long as I don’t fear for you or another’s safety.

What kind of people do you work with?

People like you and me. If you feel you need to make a change in any aspect of your life or work, and you are committed to making a change, then coaching is for you.

Can I afford coaching?

Only you know that.  But if you’ve carried on reading until now I would ask if you can afford not to.   It’s an investment in yourself.
