How do you feel about Mondays?

How do you feel about Mondays?

Are you unhappy at work?

We’ve just had a long weekend here in the UK courtesy of Easter. So many of us will have had a four day break from work.

As I write this it’s back to work tomorrow for a lot of people after a four day break.

I was reminded of how I used to feel returning to work after a holiday, a long weekend or even on a Monday morning after the usual two day weekend.

Even the longest break away from work never seemed enough. I’d feel rested but within a day or two, and definitely by the end of the first week back, that feeling had usually fallen away and I was back to where I started; counting the weeks until the next bank holiday, long weekend or get-away.

The weekends were never long enough. I’d spend Saturday getting over the week before and Sunday preparing for the next week.

I’d often get a feeling in the pit of my stomach as Sunday tea time approached knowing that the Monday morning commute wasn’t far away and it would all start again. I never slept well on a Sunday night.

I’ve been self-employed for the last couple of years and these days I often have to remind myself what day of the week it is. (Thank goodness for Google Calendar!)

I sometimes work at the weekends. I sometimes don’t work in the week. I can pick and choose. I work harder in lots of ways but I don’t have that feeling in the pit of my stomach on a Sunday any more.

I know some people like to get back to work after a break. I wonder if that’s down to their job, where they work, or the people they work with.

I know other people who like to get back to ‘normal’ after time away from work. Back to the routine that the working week provides.

Some people love their work and would do it even if they didn’t get paid. That would be great wouldn’t it!

But if you are like I used to be, dreading that Monday morning return, what could you do about it?

You could spend some time thinking about what it is about your work that makes you feel that way.

Do you need to make a change?

Is a change possible? It doesn’t have to be a big change. Small changes can make a massive difference.

Sometime it helps to spend some time thinking about the positive things about your job. It’s easy to forget those, but there will be some. Probably more than you think.
